A disappearing act...

Who doesn't have an ice cream lover in their home? It is the eve of a blizzard and who asks for ice cream before bed? Alexis, of course! Here is the recipe for a fast disappearing act...

You take this

And this

And you get this

If only her veggies went down this way!

Fun in the snow!

What a perfect Sunday filled with lots of snow! Sunday school was canceled and the girls were already bored by mid-morning. After lunch I needed to get the girls outside! It was a beautiful day to go sledding and to play in the snow!!

Fearless...

Miss rosey cheeks!

Alexis found a friend to sled with since Brynn didn't want to.

And, a snow angel!!

The snow was fun, but I'm ready for those precious spring days ahead!!

31 candles

Well, here I am on the eve of my 31st birthday. It's crazy really, that February is here and tomorrow I may get the chance to celebrate another beautiful birthday (that is if God will grant me one more day.) Birthdays are a great time to reflect over all the things that I've learned over the years. After thirty + years of mistake making, I've learned a few things. Here is a short list of things that I know for sure:

1. If you are given a choice of playing with your kids or cleaning your house...always choose your children first! The dust and mess can wait, your children will not want to play with you forever.

2.Eventually, we all turn into our parents one way or another. Knowing this, I choose my words and actions wisely!

3. Give without expecting anything in return. I don't think you've fully lived if you haven't done something for someone else who can never repay you.

4. Worrying is wasted energy

5. A quote stolen from Dr. Seuss: "A person's a person no matter how small."

6. Judge people by their actions, never their words.

7. Never wish you were somebody else or had their life...God put you in this world to live the life that he had planned for you.

8. Smile...it makes people wonder!

9. Listen closely...it's a gift that shows you care. Most people don't listen, they are just biding time for their turn to speak.

10. Wealth has nothing to do with your bank account.

11. Laugh with life. Imagine what the alternative is.

12. There really is nothing more valuable than your health.

Millions of people say that your thirties are the best decade of your life...I'm going to choose to believe them! Here's to another year in my thirties!
Happy Birthday, Me!!

I think sew!

Well, I thought the day would never come when I actually wanted to try to sew. I haven't attempted to make anything since my junior high days when we made a blanket. I think back then I even asked a classmate of mine to sew if I pinned...LOL!

I like to think that I'm a fast learner these days. My mom gave me a quick run down on how the basics of her machine worked. And from there I went head first into my projects!

All my fabric that will turn into wonderful projects!

The beast that I will be working with!

Alexis wanted to help so badly! I figured a cutting job would be best for now!

Ok, are you ready for some finished projects?!

Project 1: A cute Spring ruffle towel

Project 2: Another kitchen towel

Project 3: Alexis' iPod carrier...almost complete

And my best project yet...

Project 4: A coffee cozy with batting in the middle

I promise you a little pain and frustration occurred along the way. I either stepped on pins or they poked me in every finger of mine. (probably a rookie mistake.) The girls were fighting or yelling in my ear while I was trying to sew AND the machine kept jamming up on me. Overall, I think that my projects turned out well considering it was my first attempt.

I don't think they are good enough yet to sell or give away as gifts, but I'll keep working on that! A sewing machine just might be entering my home for good!

XOXOXO

Happy Valentine's Day to all my family and friends!

If you're anything like my family, we don't just celebrate our love for each other just one day out of the year. It usually consists of little things that often times mean the most to us. This year, I had little planned...that is, until the girls went to bed and I got busy. It was so fun completing simple things for them that I hope made them feel as special as they are to us.

Personalized hearts on Alexis' bedroom door (a pinterest inspired idea)

Brynn's bedroom hearts

At breakfast...I'm a Special Education teacher, of course I'm going to teach her this sign!

A little chair decoration.

Heart shaped muffin, strawberries, and strawberry milk

Brynn's gift bag

Our LOVE inspired books that we read.

Chad surprised me by taking the day off from work so he could spend it with us. How thoughtful and romantic is that?! Yes, he's ALL mine! He not only surprised all 3 of us with that, he kept surprising us with things! Ballons, a dozen roses, socks, gum, card, supper made by him, AND Dairy Queen for dessert! He totally earned his points back for always parking in the driveway! ;)

Chad made heart shaped cheeseburgers for supper. Thanks, Carlene for the idea!

The ballons that Chad surprised the girls with...crazy how a little ballon can make a child's day!

My roses from the hubby!

A blank canvas

I came across a blog recently that shared 25 rules for mothers of daughters. (Check it out HERE)

Well, I have two daughters so I was curious what these rules were that I should follow. After reading through the list, I was completely inspired ( I LOVE how other people can spark such inspiration in others!)

Tonight, I let Alexis complete one of the rules...if you think about this one, I truely see how every little girl should get a chance to do this to their mothers!

Here is the rule: Let her put on your makeup, even if it means bright-red-smudged lips and streaked-blue eyes. Let her experiment in her attempts to be like you…then let her be herself.

The Story of a Little Girl Putting Make-up on Her Mom...

A blank canvas...me with no make-up!

Look at her focused face!

She LOVED this!!

Yes, I trusted her with eye make-up!

Okay, are you ready for the finished project?!

I think she did great!

I hope Alexis had as much fun as I did!
